Islander Charters Sportfishing: Trip Details
Islander Charter's varied trip lengths offer access to both local and long range fisheries. One day and 1.5 day trips are great options, especially when gamefish congregate on our local banks. Additionally, these trips are perfect for beginning fishermen and women. Longer trips offer more time on the grounds and provide the necessary timing for a visit to the highly productive islands and coast further south.
These trips fish various islands and rich offshore waters within a 100 mile radius of San Diego. Departure is usually an evening event allowing Islander to travel throughout the night to selected fishing grounds. On one day trips the length of the fishing day is dependant on mileage as these trips return to the dock in the evening. 1.5 day trips offer a full day of fishing and return dockside the following morning. Albacore, Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado and Yellowtail are all possibilities on trips of this length.
Multi-Day trips give you a glimpse of what it is like to spend both day and night at sea in search of offshore game. Target species include Albacore, Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Dorado and Yellowtail. Many afternoon bites accelerate into wide-open evening bites creating the ultimate offshore experience. Another advantage to multi-day fishing is waking up deep within the fishing grounds which maximizes the chances of an early morning or 'grey bite'. Fishing conditions permitting, these trips may also visit untouched Baja coast hotspots such as Isolete, Colnett, San Martin Island and the surrounding pinnacles.
Timing is everything, and on trips of this length time is definitely on your side. These trips will fish deep in Mexican waters targeting Albacore, Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Dorado and Yellowtail. Offshore fishing will most likely be complemented by a visit to scenic islands such as Guadalupe, San Benitos, Cedros and/or Natividad. For many years Guadalupe island has been the go-to place to fish for large Yellowfin Tuna. Fish in excess of 150 pounds are not uncommon in the fall as well as record size Yellowtail. Likewise, Cedros Island and the San Benitos islands offer what may be the best Yellowtail fishing on the planet. Limit style fishing with many fish pushing 40 pounds is not uncommon at these destinations.
