Santa Cruz Island, with its large leeward side offers less challenging conditions than its western neighbors. Extensive cave systems, some of which can be seen from above water are a major attraction for divers. Diablo Point Cave, located fittingly near Diablo Anchorage is excellent for divers looking to make their first cave penetration. Also, divers can explore the wreck of the USS Peacock, a 100 foot World War II minesweeper. The wood hulled ship is in fine shape and rests comfortably in sand at 60 feet deep.
