Every year we look forward to welcoming back our group from Engineering Partners and this year was no exception.  With only slow fishing to be had in our local zone we opted to start our day at 80 miles and continue south after that.  It wasn’t long after dawn that we found our first kelp with biting fish - good grade Yellowtail and Dorado.  Over the next few hours we strung several kelps together for nearly forty mixed Yellowtail and Dorado.  It should be noted that the fish on these kelps are excellent grade.  Several Yellowtail were pushing the 30 pound mark.

By late afternoon we were 145 miles from home, but entering an area with decent signs of Albacore.  At 4:30 we spun on a sonar school and for the next two hours it was wide open Albacore fishing at its finest.  We ended up with 110 fish out of that stop but that doesn’t do justice to the sight of these fish on the corner eating anything that fell in the water.  We followed that stop up with a few short ones including a quick hit for 30.  We also had a sonar school of Yellowfin Tuna where we caught five fish in the 35 to 40 pound range.

Hopefully this fish makes a move closer to home making it more accessible on a wider range of trips.  From what we’ve seen in terms of volume and voracity there are many more good days to come.
