Today started out much like yesterday. The first few kelps provided good wide open action on mixed Yellows and Dorado. We spent the morning looking for one kelp paddy in particular that treated us very well yesterday but there has been so much water movement that it has been almost impossible to keep track of individual kelps. Needless to say, [...]

Dorado and Yellowtail were our target species today and we ended up with plenty of both. Shortly after daybreak we picked up a line of kelps that treated us very well. The grade of fish down here is excellent. The Yellows are ranging from 15-30 lbs and the Dorado 10-15lbs. We hit several kelps in [...]

After baiting up early, we cleared the point last night at 6:30 pm. We picked up a few Albacore on short stops while travelling down but it was short lived. The fish have been steadily moving to the northwest each day so we shot high in an effort to intercept the fish. It took a [...]

Every year we look forward to welcoming back our group from Engineering Partners and this year was no exception. With only slow fishing to be had in our local zone we opted to start our day at 80 miles and continue south after that. It wasn’t long after dawn that we found our first kelp [...]

Today we spent the majority of our time looking for kelps in the direction of home. We found several large kelps and managed to catch a few good quality yellows and a few dorado which were also 14-17lbs. The weather was beautiful today as well.

Today we made the run south to where the fleet has been seeing and catching a few Albacore. As we made our way down we stopped on several kelps which produced some very good grade Yellowtail. We arrived on scene in the late afternoon and quickly began to string together some stops for albacore. While these fish [...]

All in all another tough day in the local zone. While we have seen consistent signs of life as far as Albacore go, making a catch is a different story. Hopefully these fish turn around soon and get with the program. We did manage to catch a few good quality Yellowtail on kelps which is [...]

To make a long story short, out decision to make a 155 mile run on this 1.5 day trip was worth every bit of extra fuel we burned. The fishing we experienced yesterday was exceptional, and is probably the best signal of biting fish we’ve seen in a couple years. We cleared the point at [...]

Swinerton Builders has been with Islander Charters since the beginning and it’s always a pleasure to get them back on the boat. We started our morning about 65 miles from home hopeful that today would bring an improvement in fishing conditions. We had a quick stop for 4 Bluefin Tuna early in the morning which [...]

Another day of tough fishing - the weather continues to remain choppy which doesn’t help either. With any luck we’ll get a window of calm weather and this fish will start to bite.
